Group psychotherapy offers a powerful means for helping people to express themselves more effectively, and to engage in fuller, more authentic and spirited relationships. Our Fairfield County practices include several ongoing psychotherapy groups each year. Group therapy, by its very nature, is psychodynamic, experiential and relational.
A group may focus on particular populations, including groups for women, men, couples, and parents. Groups may address specific life challenges, such as step-parenting, infertility, divorce. bereavement, depression, anxiety or trauma. Some specialized treatment groups are devoted to people who are recovering from addictions, sexual compulsivity or eating disorders. Some group therapists meet with clients long-term and others meet for a single intensive weekend sessions as an adjunctive therapy. No two psychotherapists will conduct exactly the same types of groups.
The licensed psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists and counselors participating on this website are members of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), The American Academy of Psychotherapists (AAP), and other post-graduate group certification groups (CGP) Being familiar with the professional community allows us to cross-refer and to locate excellent professional resources when needed. Each group psychotherapist can explain the nature of his or her practice to prospective group members. Please use the contact information provided by the therapists to make personal inquiries.
